Blue Goose Cooperative

What is a Cooperative?

A cooperative is made up of members (the tenants) of the building. We run the building! As a coop member (tenant), you are required to participate with the other members of the coop to carry out a number of tasks—like becoming educated about your coop, selecting your neighbors, deciding on the budget for the coop, working out problems between neighbors, mowing the lawn, and cleaning.

If you do not have any interest in working with other coop members on the tasks and opportunities for running the coop, it is better for you and for the coop that you do not become a member of it.

What does this mean for me?

Required participation at Blue Goose Cooperative is…

2 Committee hours per month   Each committee meets once a month for 2 hours. Committees are; Membership, Building/Maintenance, Finance, and the Board of Directors.
+2 Service hours per month

Example include: Cleaning public areas, mowing lawn, shoveling snow, maintaining coop files, etc.

= 4 Hours of service per month

What happens if I DO NOT participate?

The coop can evict you or not renew your Occupancy Agreement (Lease) on the basis of non-participation.

In addition, the coop has established the following fee schedule for non-participation:

If a member participates   The Fee for the month is
4 or more hours per month

$0

3 or more hours per month (but less than 4) $18
2 or more hours per month (but less than 3) $35
1 or more hours per month (but less than 2) $53
Less than 1 hour $70

What happens if I DO participate?

Active Cooperative members…

  • Gain a sense of community!
  • Know their neighbors and look out for each other!
  • Make their voices heard!
  • Improve and beautify their building and community!
  • Make a difference!
